Hear ye! Hear ye!

Tea in a Beatles mug, toast with marmalade, Der Tagesspiegel – an Englishman in Berlin! The city’s newspaper of note interviewed me for Sunday's issue so I read the piece with my breakfast. ‘My drawings are a kind of chronicle’ runs the headline. I never quite remember what I said when people have asked me about my work so it’s a little scary to see those words edited into print. Some of the subjects I painted are indeed gone but – through Zettel – not entirely forgotten so I’m happy to go along with the chronicler conceit, even if I wouldn’t dare think of myself as any kind of digital Samuel Pepys. The link is at the bottom of this text. Many thanks to Maria Fiedler for the interview. Martin Dixon
