Hear ye! Hear ye!

Tea in a Beatles mug, toast with marmalade, Der Tagesspiegel – an Englishman in Berlin! The city’s newspaper of note interviewed me for Sunday's issue so I read the piece with my breakfast. ‘My drawings are a kind of chronicle’ runs the headline. I never quite remember what I said when people have asked me about my work so it’s a little scary to see those words edited into print. Some of the subjects I painted are indeed gone but – through Zettel – not entirely forgotten so I’m happy to go along with the chronicler conceit, even if I wouldn’t dare think of myself as any kind of digital Samuel Pepys. The link is at the bottom of this text. Many thanks to Maria Fiedler for the interview. Martin Dixon

Look! A Zelfie!

All Zettel notebooks’ cover images are painted in situ in Berlin, so I thought I’d take a selfie to show one of them at the scene of the crime. Not as easy as it looks, obscuring my face (I want to retain a little anonymity), getting the scene in the frame and making sure the reflected daylight didn’t obscure the cover image. Anyway, after many tries and quizzical looks from shoppers (some of whom kindly offered help, which I had to refuse due to it being a selfie and all), here I am at the entrance to Kreuzberg’s Markthalle 9 with the 'Unhöflich’ notebook from The Launch Edition. I call this photo a zelfie and I may do some more, but then I’d love to leave that up to you – wherever you find yourself with your Zettel notebooks. Order yours here send us your zelfies to gallery@zettelnotebooks.com as soon as you like.  Martin Dixon

The Launch Edition

MAKE MORE NOTES!
The very first edition of Zettel notebooks is now available. As you can see from the website, there’s a lot more planned, but The Launch Edition covers feature three of our favorite Berlin images (painted using the Brushes app on an iPhone 5), each reflecting a different aspect of this ever-changing city. They were fun to paint and we hope you’ll find the notebooks themselves good things to have at hand, wherever you find yourself and whenever you need to commit your thoughts to good old paper. Take advantage of the buy-one-get-one-free launch offer and maybe gift a friend, relative, lover, colleague – or even make an adversary blush! – with your supplementary set-of-three. Martin Dixon
